Pack 352 Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Who can join Pack 352?
Answer: Most youth in the Pack attend Vestavia Hills Elementary Dolly Ridge and Vestavia Hills Elementary East. Youth in 1st through 5th grade are eligible to join Cub Scouts.

Question: What is the difference between a Pack and a Den?
Answer: Dens are grade-based small groups. There is at least one Den for each grade level (1-5). The Pack consists of all the Dens combined.

Question: Where are Pack meetings and Den meetings held?
Answer: Pack meetings and Den meetings are normally held at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church. See the Calendar tab to your left for current dates and times.

Question: When are the Pack and Den meetings?
Answer: Pack meetings are held at 6:00 PM on the third Thursday of each month between August and May. Den meetings vary and are scheduled by the Den leader based on when most of the youth are available. Please refer to the calendar for currently scheduled events.

Question: How much time does Cub Scouts require?
Answer: The Pack meets once a month during the school year. Dens meet once or twice a month during the school year. The Pack usually has one overnight adventure in September, October, November, January, March, and April. Webelos and Arrow of Light Dens may schedule additional overnight adventures.

Question: How much does it cost?
Answer: Annual membership dues are $225 per Scout for the first Scout from each household, while additional Scouts from the same household are charged reduced dues of $200 per year. We do not want cost to be a barrier to participation, so scholarships are available. Please inquire with the Den Leader for your child’s age group or the Pack’s Cubmaster if you are in need of a scholarship. Some of the overnight outing venues have additional fees.  See the Camping F.A.Q. & Campout Check List tabs to the left for more detail.

Question: What do I get in return for my membership dues?
Answer: Your membership dues cover the cost of annual fees assessed by the Scouting America national organization and the Greater Alabama Council as well as some rank advancement materials, a Pack 352 activity t-shirt (otherwise known as Class B uniform), supplies and materials used at Den and Pack meetings, and some overnight outings.  Some campouts require a minimal fee for food, etc.

Question: If my child plays sports can they participate in Cub Scouts?
Answer: Absolutely! We want Scouting to be flexible enough to meet the needs of as many youth as possible. None of the Pack’s events are required. Individual Scout advancement can be worked on at home. However, youth should attend events as time permits so they stay engaged and benefit from all that the Cub Scouting program has to offer.
